FAQ

How do I order?

I do not take on orders, I release pieces as they are made to my Instagram: @lockhartglass. There are times where I can offer a small batch of made-to-order pieces, this means I have enough glass to make a few replicas. Sometimes I will have shop updates which means I have a group of items available all at once at a certain date and time. Please continue reading this FAQ page to find out more about why my shop has to operate like this. The best way to stay up to date as to when new pieces are available is to turn on notifications for my Instagram page.

How do shop updates work?

I announce the date and time of the shop update on post to my Instagram and Facebook. When I have a scheduled shop update restock information can always be found on my Instagram bio.

Shop updates tend to sell out very fast. Most items sell in the first few minutes. I usually have a preview of the shop update up 24 hours prior to the launch. This allows you to see the items and descriptions before the sale goes live.

Carts DO NOT hold/reserve items. Most likely the item is in several other carts at the same time. Whoever completes the check out first will receive an order email confirmation and the item.

When are your shop updates?

I try to update my shop about once a month. Check my social media post or Instagram bio to stay up to date.

Why are there no items in your shop?

If there are no items listed for sale, I am sold out.

Why are you always sold out?

There is only one of me and I try my best to restock often. Stained Glass is a very labor intensive craft. It is a slow process and takes me weeks of work to have enough items for a shop update. Stay tuned because I am always working on more.

How much does it cost?

My prices always vary. It can depend on time it takes to make, size, materials, and the glass used. Stained glass sheets that I use to make each piece are constantly fluctuating in price, which cause prices to change.

Can I custom order a piece?

No

Do you offer wholesale?

No

Can I reserve/hold items?

No

Can I order a past piece you have created?

No, unless it is a part of my shop update I can not replicate past items. Most of my items are one of a kind. Once I cut up the glass to create my work I may not be able to get that glass ever again. Therefore every item will be unique. This makes making past replicas nearly impossible.

What is a MADE TO ORDER piece?

Made to order means that this piece has not been made yet but I have enough glass to make several replicas of it. Therefore I offer it as "made to order". Each made to order piece will have individual wait times listed per item.

Why did you post to Instagram but my order has not shipped?

While working on your made to order piece I will be working on other customer's orders, on top of keeping up with social media post, and everything else I have to do to operate my business successfully. This is apart of running an online store. Your order will ship by its individual wait time as stated on its listing.

I ordered a blue crystal but could you make it purple instead?

No, Orders are NOT customizable. I cannot accept customization request.

Does my piece contain lead? How dangerous is the lead content used to make my piece?

Yes, stained glass is made with materials that contain lead. There is minimal risk when handling stained glass, it's only harmful if ingested so don't eat it or lick it!! It's always good to wash your hands after handling as a precaution. The majority of my pieces are for decorative purposes only so should not be handled much at all. Do not use in your hair, food, as jewelry, etc.

How should I hang stained glass?

Every house is different and it is hard for me to say what type of installation is going to work for yours. Glass is fragile and heavy. I strongly suggest hanging it from installed hooks, nails, or screws. If it is a corner piece, screw it in to place with screws. I DO NOT recommend hanging your piece with those suction cups! These are not reliable and often fail!

Oxidation?? Cleaning?

Solder and lead will oxidize overtime, darkening and occasionally developing a crust along lead lines. If you see "crust" most of the time you can easily buff it off with a microfiber cloth or Q-tip. If that doesn't work you may want to lightly wipe it with the green scrubby side of a sponge (unless it has black patina then you must only use a cloth).

All other general cleaning and dusting should be done with a cotton cloth or microfiber towel. Do not use cleaners or water on your piece. Simply buff with a microfiber cloth. Get in to tight spots by using a Q-tip.

Do you stain the glass??

I thought this too when I first started researching stained glass art. I can totally see why you would ask this question. The short answer is, no. Stained glass artist buy artisan glass sheets from glass makers. Then we cut and grind the glass in to shape and solder it back together with molten metal to create whatever piece we have designed.

You haven't replied to my DM/ email/ comment!

I receive a large volume of messages and comments. If your question can be answered here in the FAQ section I will oftentimes direct you here. If the answer to your question can be found in the caption on the post I will most likely not reply. If your question is not answered here please email or DM me. This helps me continue creating rather than answering questions that can be answered here. Thank you so much for understanding.
